Lateral Raise - Cables

Set the cable machine up with the single handle and stand with your left side facing the cables and the handle in your right hand so that the cable is crossing the front of your body.

Stand with your knees slightly bent, an upright posture, arms by your side. Keep your wrist straight and your palm facing in towards your body.

Now slowly raise your arms up and out to the side until your hand reaches shoulder level. Make sure you don't lean or swing your body to help raise the handles. At the highest point slowly lower your arm back down to your side.

Once you have completed your set on one side turn round and hold the cable in the other hand and repeat for your left shoulder.

Do's Don'ts
  • Do breathe out on the way up and in on the way down
  • Do keep your stomach tight
  • Do only go as high as your shoulder level
  • Do control the movement throughout
  • Do use the single handle
  • Don't hold your breath
  • Don't swing your arm or lean
  • Don't arch your back to aid the movement
