Bench Press Declined - Dumbbells

Set the bench up so that there is a slight decline of around 25 degrees. Lie down on the bench on your back. Hold the dumbbells in line with your lower chest.

Keeping your tummy tight so that you do not arch your lower back (if the bench is too high forcing your back to arch and your feet do not rest comfortably on the ground then place your feet on the bench - if you are unsure; ask an instructor).

Hold the dumbbells so that your palms are facing towards your feet and the weights are together above your chest. Slowly lower your arms down and out, staying in line with your lower chest and stop when your elbows reach 90 degrees. Now push back up again bringing the weights together above your chest making sure not to lock your elbows out.


Do's Don'ts
  • Do keep your tummy tight
  • Do keep a slight bend in the elbow at the straightest point
  • Do breathe out on the way up and in on the way down
  • Do keep the movement slow and controlled
  • Do keep your forearms vertical throughout
  • Don't arch your back
  • Don't hold your breath
