Chin Up Wide Grip

Take hold of the chin up bar with both hands wider than shoulder width apart and palms facing away from you.

Hang freely from the bar with your legs straight or bent at the knee (it makes no difference). Now pull yourself up making sure your elbows stay to the side of your body and do not come in front. As you go up your elbows should create a nice arc shape to the side of you body. When you have pulled yourself up as high as you can make sure you squeeze your elbows into your side.

On the way down do not drop but slowly lower yourself, keeping your elbows to the side of your body, until your arms are nearly straight. Then it is time to go back up again.

Do's Don'ts
  • Do breathe in on the way down and out on the way up
  • Do keep your elbows to the side
  • Do slowly lower yourself
  • Don't swing your body to aid the movement
  • Don't hold your breath
  • Don't bring your knees up in front of you
  • Don't drop on the downward movement
